Amid the deterioration of time caused by the Tropical Depression, ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel called for “prudence and discipline” following the formation of the Tropical Depression Nine, a system that is already causing heavy rains in Cuba and could reach storm and even hurricane status in the coming days.

In his social media, the regime representative assured that he is in communication with the first secretaries of the eastern provinces, where intense rains are reported. He also stated that instructions have been given to protect the population and material resources.

In his message, he called for political and administrative coordination "in the territories" and a call to the public to exercise extreme caution.

The official report emphasizes that "efforts have been made to protect people and property" and that local organizations are implementing measures. The communication concludes with a promise to continue monitoring the weather situation and the "response in the territories."

According to the notice at 11:00 a.m. (Eastern Time), the Tropical Depression Nueves has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h and is moving northwest at 13 km/h.

The NHC warned that the system will continue to strengthen and will bring tropical storm conditions to parts of central and northwestern Bahamas until Sunday night.

In Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, the rains associated with the depression will continue over the weekend, with a high risk of sudden and urban flooding, as well as landslides in mountainous areas.

The organization also warned of a significant threat of heavy rainfall starting early next week along the east coast of the United States, particularly in Georgia, the Carolinas, and the Mid-Atlantic region, where river flooding could occur.

If the trend continues, the depression will reach hurricane-strength intensity as it approaches southeast Florida and neighboring states.

Although the center of the depression is moving toward the Atlantic, the eastern provinces of Cuba are the hardest hit by its cloudy bands and rainfall.
