The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (MINREX) announced on November 27, 2025, the passing of former ambassador Abelardo Fabio Hernández Ferrer, at the age of 69.
Through an official statement, MINREX expressed its sorrow over the death of the diplomat, who had a long career in the Cuban foreign service.
Hernández Ferrer graduated in 1976 from the Pedagogical Institute of Minsk, in what was then the Soviet Union, with a degree in Russian Language and Literature.
He stood out for his work in the Translation and Interpretation Services Team (ESTI) at the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), in the Directorate of International Relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and for his work in the Europe Directorate of MINREX.
He completed a diplomatic mission in the USSR, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. Additionally, he served as Cuba's ambassador in Kazakhstan and Saint Kitts and Nevis.
After his retirement, he remained connected to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participating in meetings and activities organized for retired diplomats.
