La Nochebuena, one of the most cherished celebrations among Cubans, has ceased to be what it once was. This sentiment was expressed by content creator Ady Machín, known on social media as @adymachin_vlogs, in a video that has gone viral within the Cuban community both on the island and abroad.
"Before, Christmas Eve began as soon as you woke up. Families would get up early, prepare the seasonings, the pork, the desserts, and everything was filled with joy," recalled the young woman. However, she insists that in today's Cuba, "that no longer exists."
"Many families are divided, with loved ones far away, separated by emigration," she explained.
This is compounded by the deep economic crisis the country is facing, where “money is not enough to prepare the dishes we used to have. A piece of bread, a coffee, and a bit of meat are treasures,” he said sadly.
The influencer emphasized that, despite the scarcity and distance, Cubans continue to try to maintain the Christmas spirit: “Despite everything, we are still trying to feel close and share what little we have.”
His reflection has struck a chord among Cubans, many of whom see themselves in those words and share the nostalgia for celebrations that today, amid blackouts, scarcity, and family separation, seem increasingly distant.
On social media, several users thanked Ady for the message and expressed their hope that, one day, Cuban families will be able to reunite without fear, without shortages, and with hope.
