The President of the United States, Donald Trump, promised on Friday in an interview with Fox News that his administration will seek ways to support Cubans residing in the United States who have suffered under the Castro regime.

Trump addressed the political and economic situation in Cuba and its historical dependence on Venezuela, reiterating his intention to directly assist Cubans living in the United States and the exile communities that have reported persecution and human rights violations on the island for decades.

Although he did not provide specific details about programs or concrete support policies, his statement set a tone of support for the Cuban diaspora and their suffering under the Castro regime.

His statements come in the current context of intervention in Venezuela, a long-standing ally of Havana.

"Cuba has always relied on Venezuela for money and oil, and provided protection to Venezuela. That has always been the deal," the leader said during the program, in which he criticized the energy dependence that has characterized the Cuban regime in recent years.

The U.S. president also emphasized that this dynamic has changed in the context of the current intervention in Venezuela, where the United States has taken on a dominant role following the capture of former president Nicolás Maduro, and traditional energy relationships are under review.

Trump stated that the loss of Venezuelan support further undermines Havana and raises doubts about the viability of the Cuban economic model, although his analysis was general and did not provide concrete figures.

"I don't know how they survive without Venezuela," he mentioned in the interview.

Regarding political support within the U.S., the president highlighted Senator Marco Rubio as a key ally who “knows Cuba very well” and has been a consistent critic of the Castro regime.

Specialists remind us that this stance aligns with the overall policy of the U.S. government towards Cuba, which aims to strengthen civil society, promote freedom, and exert pressure on the regime regarding its human rights abuses.

Trump's promise adds to a landscape of changes in hemispheric politics, where the situation in Venezuela remains a strategic focus for Washington, while the Cuban economy faces a prolonged crisis after years of shortages, blackouts, and reduced oil supply from Caracas.
