The administration of President Donald Trump is working with the new Venezuelan authorities on a political reform that will completely transform the structure of the state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA).

The goal, according to sources close to the process, is to ensure transparency, attract international investment, and restore oil production after years of corruption and falling revenues.

According to a report by Reuters, the initiative has the support of Secretary of State Marco Rubio and is part of the transition plan promoted by Washington following the capture of Nicolás Maduro and the provisional assumption of Delcy Rodríguez as interim president.

The proposal aims to separate the technical management of PDVSA from the political interests of the Chavista dictatorship, as well as to review the contracts signed over the last decade with allies such as Russia, Iran, and China.

In parallel, the creation of a new regulatory framework is anticipated to allow American and European companies to participate in the reconstruction of the energy sector under international supervision.

According to Reuters, sources from the oil sector confirmed that the White House is also considering the possibility of conditioning future agreements on commitments to fiscal transparency and respect for democratic institutions.

The plan also includes a comprehensive audit of PDVSA and the elimination of parallel structures used to divert funds during Maduro's regime.

The strategy is part of the Trump administration's efforts to stabilize Venezuela through a supervised economic transition, in which oil once again becomes the focus of national reconstruction.
