The Cuban athlete and creator Yoridán Martínez (@zugakane), winner of Exatlón Estados Unidos 2022, has gone viral on TikTok with a video that humorously depicts how someone changes—or rather, how they become more Cuban—when spending time living in Miami.
In the clip, Yoridán initially appears with a discreet look, speaking in English and showcasing his more serious side, under the text “One day in Miami.” But seconds later, the contrast comes: fitted shirt, tight jeans, red shoes, and a fully Cuban accent. “A year in Miami, what a turn of events. This is fire with everyone. Here, Cuban pizza is delicious. You understand, you don’t have this waist”, he says with laughter, reflecting what many consider the inevitable effect of living in the most Cuban city outside of Cuba.
The reactions came swiftly: "How did you fit into those jeans?" joked one user. "You get that tiny waist from eating croquetas and guava pastries," added another. "You missed the chains," "I died laughing at the belly," or "don't jump in this pool, it's empty" were some of the comments that turned the video into a laughter festival.
The underlying theme, “Mi Palón Divino” by Chocolate MC, added the finishing touch to a parody that many described as “too real.” “That’s right, you start speaking English and end up ordering pizza at the window and saying ‘qué vuelta’,” wrote one follower, while others claimed to have gone through exactly the same “Miami transformation.”
With his usual charisma and a good dose of self-irony, Yoridán demonstrates that he also has a talent for connecting with the audience outside of sports. In just a few seconds, he managed to summarize—with humor and much truth—how life in Miami can turn anyone into a typical Cuban.
