El Gobierno chino reafirmó este lunes su apoyo al régimen cubano y pidió a Estados Unidos que levante las sanciones y el embargo contra la isla, en un nuevo gesto de respaldo político a La Habana en medio del endurecimiento de la presión de Washington.
“China seguirá brindando apoyo y ayuda a Cuba dentro de sus capacidades, y creemos que bajo el liderazgo del Partido Comunista y el Gobierno cubanos, el pueblo podrá superar sus dificultades temporales”, declaró el portavoz del Ministerio de Exteriores, Guo Jiakun, durante una conferencia de prensa en Pekín.
The spokesperson, cited by the outlet Actualidad RT, accused the United States of "violating international law" and of "depriving the Cuban people of their right to survive and develop," in addition to "undermining regional peace and stability."
Beijing urged Washington to "immediately put an end to the blockade" and the economic sanctions against the regime of Miguel Díaz-Canel.
The remarks from the Chinese spokesperson come just a few days after the outlet Politico reported that the administration of President Donald Trump is preparing a complete ban on oil imports to Cuba, as part of a package of measures aimed at financially weakening the military and business apparatus controlled by General Raúl Castro and the conglomerate GAESA.
Washington has made it clear that its strategy aims to suffocate the sources of income of the Cuban regime and expedite the end of military control over the island's economy.
Since Trump's return to the White House, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has led the regional pressure policy against the allies of Castroism, including Venezuela and Nicaragua.
China and Russia have become the main international partners of the Cuban regime in recent years, providing loans, food, and technology in exchange for geopolitical influence in the Caribbean.
