A new billboard placed at 1700 NW 50th Street in Miami calls for the end of the unjust detentions and deportations of Cuban migrants and demands respect for the Cuban Adjustment Act, one of the main legal protections for asylum seekers from the island.
The journalist Daniel Benítez shared on Facebook several photos of a poster displaying the message “Stop detentions and unjust deportations,” along with the phrases “We are not criminals, we are families seeking freedom” and “No more violations to the Cuban Adjustment Act.”
The message, written in capital letters, aims to highlight the human impact of the recent arrests and deportation processes undertaken by U.S. immigration authorities following the tightening of immigration policy.
The message also denounces what it describes as "violations of the Cuban Adjustment Act," a regulation that since 1966 has allowed Cubans to regularize their immigration status after one year and one day of residence in the United States.
The billboard, visible from one of the busiest roads in Miami, has become a symbol of resistance and humanitarian plea, reminding us that behind every migration case are stories of families who escaped repression in search of freedom.
