Republican Congressman Carlos Giménez accused the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, of using resources from the Mexican people to support the Cuban regime, which he described as a dictatorship in its terminal phase.

The statements were published by Giménez on the social network X, where he denounced from the United States Congress what he described as a strategy to provide support to the allies of the Cuban regime through the supply of oil and political backing.

The legislator's statement came after Sheinbaum described the sanctions imposed by the United States as unjust against countries selling oil to Cuba and announced that her government is working to resume oil shipments to the island through diplomatic efforts.

During her morning press conference on Monday, the Mexican president stated that such sanctions impact the Cuban people and defended the continuation of humanitarian aid, while reiterating her disagreement with the economic measures imposed by Washington against those who trade hydrocarbons with Havana.

Sheinbaum affirmed that Mexico will continue to support the Cuban people with food shipments and humanitarian assistance and emphasized that political differences with the regime should not result in economic punishment for the population.

According to the agency EFE, Petróleos Mexicanos sent crude oil to Cuba in 2025 worth nearly 496 million dollars, although the Mexican government itself recently acknowledged that those shipments were halted to avoid trade sanctions, without giving up on humanitarian aid or efforts to resume the supply of oil.

For his part, Republican Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart stated this Monday that the regime in Cuba has never been so weak and warned that President Donald Trump is not willing to tolerate a government that he labeled as terrorist and anti-American just 90 miles from the United States.

In a message posted on the social media platform X, Díaz-Balart asserted that Trump has made his stance clear with a recent executive order and noted that anyone still doubting the seriousness of the president should ask Nicolás Maduro, referencing the Venezuelan precedent.
