The Government of Mexico will send a second shipment of humanitarian aid to Cuba and will continue the shipments until reaching a total of 800 tons of food supplies, as announced this Wednesday by President Claudia Sheinbaum during her morning conference.

Sheinbaum explained that the ship with the first shipment will return, and that subsequently a new cargo will be dispatched.

"A second shipment will be made, and thus shipments will continue until reaching 800 tons", he stated. He added that if more supplies are available, additional shipments could be sent.

The president also opened the possibility for civil society organizations to join in the aid efforts. She mentioned that there are groups organizing food drives and indicated that, should they provide the supplies, these could be included in the official shipments.

He specified that the Secretariat of the Interior will provide a link to coordinate with those organizations, in case there is space in the shipments.

Regarding the situation with aviation fuel and the energy challenges faced by the island, Sheinbaum clarified that flights from Mexico to Cuba have not been suspended and that the aircraft refuel with jet fuel in Mexican territory before traveling.

"It is not forbidden to fly to the island," she stated when asked if Mexico could provide support in that regard.

The president reiterated that the support is part of the shipments that Mexico is making and that it will continue until the planned volume of assistance is completed.
