The Miami-Dade County Tax Collector's Office announced the launch of a new Compliance Transparency Page, a public repository that will allow residents to clearly and centrally access records and information generated during the review of business activities linked to Cuba in the county.
The announcement was made by tax collector Dariel Fernández, who explained that the goal of the portal is to enhance transparency and ensure compliance with state and local laws, particularly in contexts involving national security concerns.
"As the Tax Collector for Miami-Dade County, my responsibility is to ensure that every business operating in our county complies with state and local laws, especially when there are national security concerns," Fernández stated in a post on the social network X.
Review linked to Trump's executive order
Fernández noted that the creation of the repository is in response to the Executive Order from President Donald J. Trump regarding the threats posed by the Cuban communist and socialist regime, as well as recent federal actions.
"In light of that executive order and following federal actions, our office has spent months reviewing business activities under our legal authority," he explained.
“Transparency and respect for the law are essential, and this new portal ensures that the public has access to accurate information,” he added.
Previous complaints and revocation of licenses
In January, the tax collector reported alleged abuses in business licenses related to operations towards Cuba and announced that he would inform President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the national security risks that he claimed are threatening the community in South Florida.
Fernández then revealed that his office received two letters from the U.S. Department of Commerce on January 13, 2026, confirming the revocation of federal licenses used for exports to Cuba.
Compliance notices to county businesses
As part of this review, Fernández announced the issuance of 50 compliance notices directed at businesses whose activities may be related to commercial operations with the Cuban regime.
In an official statement, it was explained that these actions are part of a process to ensure that all businesses meet the necessary legal requirements to obtain or maintain the Local Business Tax Receipt.
The notices require key information to determine the eligibility of businesses, including confirmation that they have the appropriate federal authorization for their operations, in accordance with state law and county code.
Transparency and control
With the launch of the new public repository, the Tax Collector's Office aims to strengthen oversight, provide greater clarity to residents, and reaffirm its commitment to upholding the law, in a context of increased scrutiny over business relationships connected to the Cuban regime.
