A Cuban resident in Dubai shared a video on TikTok showing how much he spent on groceries and comparing the prices with the situation in Cuba. The young man, identified on the social network as @milosavandija, stated that he invested 50 dollars in various basic products.
"If you think food is expensive in Cuba, take the test and come here; I'm going to show you how much things cost here in Dubai and what I bought with 50 dollars today," he commented at the beginning of the video.
According to his explanation, he only bought a kilogram of meat "to make the video," although he stated that he normally consumes up to 15 kilograms of meat a week. In the footage, he is seen buying ground beef and ribs while joking with the butcher as he tries to get a discount.
The Cuban also displayed the price of fruits and avocados, which he classified among the most expensive products. In a humorous tone, he mentioned that sometimes he puts on a "face" to avoid paying for a fruit when he's craving it.
During the recording, he mentioned that a security guard informed him that someone was allegedly stealing his bicycle, which forced him to leave the establishment and continue his shopping at another market.
In the second part of the purchase, he bought chicken and took advantage of a deal on eggs, which he described as "the cheapest in the world." According to him, he bought two cartons for 5 dollars each and decided to take four.
At the end of the video, she showcased the purchased products and the visible prices on screen, and she admitted with a laugh that she might have slightly exceeded the initial budget.
The clip has generated numerous reactions among Cuban users, many of whom compare international prices with the economic reality on the island, where salaries in Cuban pesos (CUP) remain insufficient in the face of the high cost of basic food items.
