A report circulated on social media indicates alleged mistreatment and abuse of travelers at Ignacio Agramonte International Airport in Camagüey during customs checks.
Nailys Matos published on Facebook a testimony in which she describes the treatment that, according to her, passengers arriving with medicine, food, and supplies for their families on the island receive as “humiliation” and “agony.” This issue becomes even more significant as many families currently rely on this channel to access medications.
In his post, Matos accuses airport officials of committing excesses under the pretext of customs inspection.
Among the reported incidents, he mentions the opening of cans of nutritional milk for babies, the handling of sterile gauzes intended for surgeries, and the tampering with the seals of medications.
It also names a specific official, holding her accountable for allegedly carrying out mistreatment during the arrivals.
The complainant asserts that these actions would render essential products unusable and would directly affect children and patients who rely on those supplies.
In his message, he also questions how long what he describes as the oppression of the people will be allowed, and raises questions about accountability in cases where food or medical supplies become unusable after inspections.
