The management of the Ciber Club Corona, part of Joven Club Santiago de Cuba, issued a statement in which it denied any mismanagement of resources following the controversy surrounding the celebration of a manager's birthday at its facilities.
The clarification arises following a complaint published on social media by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, who raised concerns about the use of a state space—a computer room located on Enramada Street—for a private event.
The complaint
According to the publication, on February 26th, the birthday of Héctor Labadi Hierrezuelo, director of District II of Joven Club, was celebrated at the venue, specifically in the inner courtyard.
Testimonies cited in the complaint indicated that there was loud music and the consumption of beverages, raising questions about the legality and appropriateness of using a public institution for personal celebrations.
The complaint raised questions such as: Is it appropriate to use a public space for private celebrations? Is there formal authorization for such activities?
The official response
In its statement, the management of Ciber Club Corona explained that the activity took place outside of working hours and in an internal area of the premises.
The institution confirmed that the rental of event spaces is officially approved within its range of services and that the venue is often used for children's birthday parties, quinceañeras, and sociocultural activities as a way to generate revenue for the maintenance of the center.
According to the official version, the celebration was a private and spontaneous gesture from the workers towards their director, funded by the group itself, and did not involve misuse of resources or impact on the technological services provided by the entity.
"There is no misappropriation of resources here, nor was assistance activity halted for celebration," the statement notes.
Furthermore, the management acknowledged the sensitivity of the current context and stated that public spaces must be used with rigor and transparency.
Public debate
The case has generated debate on social media regarding the use of state facilities for private activities, particularly in a context of economic limitations and resource shortages in the country.
So far, no reports have been made regarding the initiation of additional investigations.
