According to what he explained, the surgery was successful, but the director will need a prolonged recovery period.

"Lester Hamlet is recovering from open-heart surgery after suffering two heart attacks. The operation was successful, but he will need several months off work," Capote wrote while sharing the call for help.

According to the campaign published on the GoFundMe platform, doctors performed a double bypass surgery after deeming the intervention urgent.

The text of the initiative explains that the recovery process will be long and delicate.

The doctors indicated that Hamlet will need to remain unable to work for at least three months and that his complete recovery could take between six to eight months before he can resume his normal activities.

During that time, he will need to cover basic and medical expenses related to his treatment, including housing, food, medications, and other costs associated with his recovery.

The campaign was created by friends and close associates of the filmmaker to help meet those needs while he recovers.

"Those of us who know him are aware that he is a hardworking, generous person who is always willing to help others. Today, it is he who needs the support of his community," the message posted on the fundraising page states.

The initiative aims to raise $25,000. So far, it has managed to collect $3,645 through 46 donations.

The organizers also asked that those who are unable to contribute financially share the campaign to extend the reach of the call for assistance.
