A Cuban resident in Batabanó reported on social media that her home was looted while her son was sleeping inside the house.

The woman, identified on Facebook as La Soberana Tuti, reported that the thieves entered during the early hours of the morning and took several essential devices she used to cope with the power outages.

According to a video he posted on his profile, the incident occurred shortly after the electricity came back on, around midnight. “The power here comes on at midnight, and I went downstairs to grab a bread. I left my son sleeping,” he recounted. Upon returning to the room, he found the house in disarray.

The intruders took a generator that was charging, lamps, electric fans, and their son's mobile phone—items that the family used for lighting and cooling themselves during the prolonged power outages.

In the video, cables are strewn on the ground along with various disorganized electrical devices, while the woman points out the location where the generator was connected before it disappeared.

He also showed how the television ended up on the furniture, and an open closet with clothes in disarray. "They came in looking for who knows what," he lamented.

What troubles the mother the most is that her son was asleep in the house when the robbery occurred. “My little one was sleeping in the second room,” she said, visibly upset.

Despite what happened, she stated that she will not file a report with the police because she believes it is pointless to do so. "Why would I report it to the police? I'm tired of calling. The number is either off or out of service," she affirmed.

The woman concluded her testimony with evident desperation over the situation: “They left me with nothing… with what I used to provide for my children.”

Her post has generated numerous reactions on social media, where other Cubans have shared similar experiences of theft and the growing sense of insecurity amid the economic crisis and frequent blackouts on the island.
