The Cuban poet Lina de Feria, 2019 National Literature Prize, passed away this Monday, as reported on social media by the Alquízar correspondent of Radio Artemisa and several writers who mourned her loss.
The Alquízar correspondence of Radio Artemisa announced on Facebook the passing of the writer, also recalling her visit to the municipality in 2015, when she participated in cultural activities held at the José de las Mercedes Corós municipal library.
"National Literature Prize winner Lina de Feria has passed away. The poet visited the municipality of Alquízar in 2015 to conclude the summer program at the José de las Mercedes Corós municipal library," the report noted, adding that local writers mourn her loss.
After the news broke, several Cuban authors expressed their sorrow over the poet's death and remembered her literary legacy.
The poet Reinaldo Cedeño wrote a farewell message in which he expressed gratitude for his work and personal closeness.
“Goodbye my dear Lina de Feria, National Literature Award 2019. We thank you for your poetry and for your returns, for your excesses and your restraint,” she expressed.
For his part, the poet Karel Alexei Leyva Ferrer expressed his sorrow over the passing on behalf of institutions connected to poetry.
"I deeply regret your passing. Thank you, Lina, for your words, until poetry always," he wrote.
The writer Yanier H. Palao also recalled the impression that the author's work made on him, especially her book País sin abedules, one of the most well-known titles in her literary output.
Lina de Feria was one of the prominent voices in contemporary Cuban poetry, and her work left a significant mark on the country's literature.
