Anna Sofía Benítez Silvente, known as Anna Bensi, publicly spoke out following the accusation made against her mother and stated that the summons and questioning aimed to "intimidate her, pressure her," and "destabilize her."
According to a post on Facebook, his mother was under interrogation for two hours, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and upon her release, she was informed that she must return with a lawyer within five days.
According to Bensi, his mother is being accused of “endangering a State Security officer.”
The young woman stated that the authorities allege that the agent "has a family," that "he has received threats," and that if anything were to happen to his family members, the responsibility would fall on his mother.
In her message, Bensi flatly rejected the accusation and stated that neither she nor her mother are criminals.
"My mother is not a criminal, my mother and I are completely innocent people,” she stated, while asserting that the authorities acted "at the last moment" because, according to her, "they have nothing in hand."
The young woman also reported constant threats against both herself and her mother. In that context, she held the State Security directly responsible for any harm that might come to either of them.
"If anything happens to my mom or me, the blame will be on you," she said.
According to her account, her mother was also informed that she is under "house arrest," that she cannot leave the country, and that the criminal proceedings against her could last for years.
Bensi insisted on attributing those statements to what, he said, he was informed during or after the interrogation.
"Law that was pulled out of the pocket"
Another point he questioned was the legality and wording of the summons. He stated that the document was "poorly drafted" and noted that in the line where the purpose of the summons should have been specified, that section was left blank.
He also stated that the accusation made against his mother pertains to an incident that occurred just the day before, when, as he explained, agents came to deliver the citation itself.
Bensi also stated that the rule applied against his mother would be, as he was told, a "new law," and he questioned the legal basis of the proceedings.
"Law that they pulled out of their pocket," he stated. From that, he questioned why his mother was initially summoned if, according to his account, a different accusation was later attributed to her.
The young woman added that her mother was made aware that she will also be summoned soon. In light of this possibility, she stated that she is facing whatever comes her way "with faith" and reiterated that she does not intend to remain silent.
"You can imprison, you can kill people, but you cannot imprison ideas," he stated.
In her statement, Bensi combined political denunciation with religious references. She said that both she and her mother are driven “entirely by faith” and not by what “men say,” and she asserted that “the final word belongs to God.”
The message concluded with direct political slogans against the Cuban system. Bensi stated that "their time is running out," uttered the phrases "down with the dictatorship, down with communism," and ended with "Homeland and life," in addition to calling for "freedom for all political prisoners" and "freedom for Cuba."
