Residents of the Havana municipality of Marianao also joined in tonight with their clanging pots and took to the streets to set several plastic garbage bins on fire amid a blackout, according to reports shared on social media.

Videos and images shared by users show burning plastic garbage containers and smoke in various areas of the neighborhood, including El Lido, while residents gathered in the streets during the protest.

The recordings were shared by the user Saúl Manuel, who posted images of the moment along with the message: “Now... Marianao.”

The burning of garbage has become one of the forms of protest used by residents in various neighborhoods of Havana in recent days.

This Thursday, similar demonstrations have also been reported in El Cerro, and on previous days in areas such as Lawton, Mantilla, El Cotorro, and Nuevo Vedado, where residents have accompanied the bonfires with pot-banging and slogans.

The protests are happening amid the energy crisis that Cuba is facing, characterized by prolonged power outages that impact the daily lives of millions of citizens.

The increasing number of protests with pots and pans, roadblocks, and burning of garbage reflects the growing social discontent in response to the deterioration of basic services on the island.
