Residents of the western area of Guantánamo captured a thief who was trying to escape after robbing a local mipyme, in an incident recorded in various videos shared on social media.

The images show the moment when the suspect is spotted jumping from a house to escape, leading to their eventual detention by the residents of the area.

In one of the videos, a woman screams "Grab it, grab it, look, I recorded it for the police", as other neighbors join in the pursuit of the individual through the streets of the neighborhood.

According to additional information shared on social media, two individuals would have been arrested on Tuesday night, found inside a residence while committing the theft.

The episode occurs within a context of increasing insecurity in Cuba, where crime reports rose by 115.11% compared to 2024, according to recent data reflecting the deterioration of the situation across the country.

In recent days, several similar incidents have been reported in different provinces of the country. In Cárdenas, Matanzas, an alleged thief was caught in the early morning while climbing a house where a pregnant woman was sleeping alone, which caused alarm among the neighbors and led to widespread sharing of the video on social media.

Similarly, in Havana, a man was arrested for posing as an inspector to defraud private businesses, in a case that also required direct community intervention before the arrival of the police.

These incidents reflect a growing pattern in which citizens not only report but also take on an active role in response to the lack of effective action from the authorities, amidst a sustained increase in crime in Cuba.
