Carlos Luis Suárez Navarro, a young man between 23 and 24 years old, lost his life on Saturday, August 1, on the embankment connecting Palmira to Camarones, in the province of Cienfuegos, during what would have been a violent assault aimed at stealing his electric scooter, according to information shared on social media by the crime reporter Niover Licea.
According to multiple reports received by the citizen reporting platform 'Nio Reportando un Crimen', the young man had been hired to take a trip in his vehicle when he was attacked with a knife. Preliminary data, which has not been officially confirmed, suggest that the victim may have been slashed.
Cuban authorities have not issued any statement regarding the case nor reported any arrests, and the exact circumstances of the crime remain unverified.
In the hours following the incident, reports circulated mentioning an individual identified only as "Marcos," approximately 28 years old, who allegedly requested the ride and has not been located since. According to testimony gathered by the platform, this person is known in the area for alleged thefts.
However, Licea expressly warned that "he has not been able to independently verify that information, nor is there, so far, any official confirmation that Marcos is connected to the murder of Carlos Luis Suárez Navarro."
It is worth noting that there is a discrepancy in the source itself regarding the victim's maternal surname: 'Nio Reporting a Crime' first identifies it as Suárez Navarro, but later in its publication, it identifies it as Suárez García.
The news generated a wave of condolences and messages of outrage on social media. "Rest in peace, brother. You have no idea how much I feel this news. A young guy full of life, for God's sake," wrote one of his friends. Another expressed: "I hope justice is served against the shameless ones who took your life, my brother. May God keep you in glory."
Several internet users also warned about the danger faced by those offering informal transportation services. "Drivers have to take a picture of the customer and send it to a family member via WhatsApp," advised one of them. "How can we put a stop to so much violence? A similar case happened here in Havana," lamented another user.
The crime adds to a series of similar events that are shaking Cuba in 2026.
In April of last year, Adonis Fuentes González was murdered in the city of Cienfuegos during an assault to steal the battery from his electric tricycle.
That same month, the authorities were searching for Orlando Rey, alias "El Bufón", suspected of another crime in the municipality of Palmira, the same municipality from which the attack against Suárez Navarro is believed to have taken place from the embankment towards Camarones.
Nationwide, in May, Dairon Urbay Solan was killed in Remedios, Villa Clara and Ramón Orlando Martínez was killed in Santiago de Cuba, both during assaults to steal their electric tricycles.
In February, three men were sentenced to life imprisonment in Santiago de Cuba for deliberately murdering a motorist to steal his motorcycle and resell the parts.
