
Un incidente ferroviario ocurrido este jueves en Cabaiguán, en la provincia de Sancti Spíritus, dejó un saldo de dos trabajadores lesionados, tras un incendio provocado por la explosión de un fogón de aire en un coche-conductora.
The tranquility of the afternoon in Cabaiguán was interrupted after 4:30 p.m., when a fire broke out in the 7306 conductor of a train parked on the well-known old line of the municipality, near the Intermunicipal Bus Terminal, reported the Facebook group Transportación Habana TH.
The incident occurred at the RECA chucho belonging to the Sergio Soto Refinery, while locomotive 51217, designated for fuel transport, was stopped on the crossing track of the station, awaiting the unloading of 10 tank cars at the local refinery.
According to the information released, the explosion of an air stove used by the crew for cooking caused the fire in the driver’s car.
As a result of the incident, the engineer's assistant, Flor Leonardo Santiesteban, and the engineer, Nelson Mejía Conde, were injured; they suffered wounds during the explosion and while uncoupling the locomotive.
Both were taken to a nearby health center for medical evaluation and recovery.
The driver showed significant impairments and the loss of personal belongings of the crew was reported.
However, no damage was reported to the train's machinery, thanks to the prompt action of the workers, who managed to disconnect it in time, the source specified.
The fire was controlled with the support of the Fire Department and local residents, who also provided assistance to those affected by donating clothing and other items.
Authorities from the government and the Communist Party, railway executives, members of the Revolutionary National Police, and oversight bodies from the Ministry of the Interior attended the event.
The information states that an investigative committee was established to clarify the causes and conditions of the incident.
