Six deceased and five injured identified in tragic mass accident in Moa, Holguín



The collision of a pickup truck with a tricycle on the Moa-Baracoa highway in Holguín resulted in the death of five people at the scene, along with another person passing away later in the hospital. Five injured individuals from the mass accident are still hospitalized.

Six people died and five were injured in the tragic traffic accident that occurred on Monday afternoon in Moa, Holguín, official sources confirmed.

The massive accident, involving a pickup truck and a tricycle transporting passengers, occurred around 4:00 p.m. on the road from Moa to Baracoa (Guantánamo), in the section toward the Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara Nickel Company, reported journalist Yulieska Hernández García.

The truck collided with the tricycle, a crash that resulted in the death of five individuals at the scene and the subsequent passing of another at the Dr. Guillermo Luis Fernández Hernández-Baquero Hospital; in addition, there were five injured, including both drivers, the report specified.

The deceased in the tragic event are:

- Andys William Mendoza Ferrer, 41 years old, resident in the Aeropuerto neighborhood, in Frank País.

- Enoelio Borges Reyes, 50 years old, originally from Moa and residing in Cayo Grande de Yamanigüey.

- Maria Carla Noguera Despaigne, 19 years old, residing on Lenin Avenue, in the 26 de Junio neighborhood.

- Emmanuel Rodríguez Igarza, 23 years old, resident of Punta Gorda Arriba.

- Eloína Reyes González, 69 years old, also from Punta Gorda Arriba.

- Liolvis Lofforte Alpajón, 33 years old, from Cayo Grande de Yamanigüey.

Of the five injured individuals, one is in serious condition; three are in serious but stable condition, and one has non-life-threatening injuries.

They are: Sandro Medina Oliveros, 52 years old, resident of building 35, apartment 7, in Miraflores, reported as serious but stable; Yanet Rodríguez Reyes (49), from Punta Gorda Arriba, with a head injury, but stable; Omar Breff Blanco (58), tricycle driver and resident of Viales 8, in Armando Mestre, in serious condition; Liset Suárez Lovaina (29), from Quemado del Negro, with non-life-threatening injuries, but stable; and Eroeldis Borges Alpajón (23), living in Cayo Grande de Yamanigüey, serious but stable.

Hernández stated that as soon as the accident was reported, personnel from the Rescue and Salvage teams of the nickel industries and the SIUM from the area arrived at the scene to assist the injured and to identify and transport the deceased victims. In addition, authorities from the municipality and the Ministry of the Interior also attended.

Additionally, the hospital activated the emergency response protocol for mass accident situations and promptly and rigorously attended to the injured in the Traumatology and Special Care services of the Emergency Department, the report specified.

According to initial reports about the tragic incident, the tricycle was transporting passengers from the community of Armando Mestre in Moa when it was struck by a truck belonging to Womy Equipment Rental. This is a Dutch company specializing in the rental, sale, and maintenance of heavy equipment, vehicles (cars, trucks, buses), and machinery, according to information available online.
