A total of 95 millimeters of rain recorded during the early morning and morning of this Saturday in the municipality of Moa caused the Cabañas River to rise, following the opening of the gates of the diversion channel to alleviate soil saturation.

The situation required the activation of a preventive alert from the Municipal Defense Council, which is carrying out activities related to Territorial Day, due to the risk of potential flooding in the Pedro Sotto Alba neighborhood, known as Ecrin.

According to information provided by local authorities, the decision to raise the gates was made due to the accumulation of water in the land and the increase in the river's flow, as a measure to prevent greater damage.

Although the rains have since stopped and it is expected that the waters will gradually return to their natural course, regime authorities assert that they will maintain close surveillance in the area, especially in the Rolo-Veguita region, alongside its Popular Council.

So far, there are no reported material damages or evacuations, but local forces remain on alert for any changes in weather conditions in eastern Cuba, an area affected by the severe economic crisis and the impact of Hurricane Melissa, which struck the region last year.
