The Electric Company of Holguín attempted this week to promote "citizen self-management" with a social media post titled "Learn to read your meter," encouraging users to monitor their electricity consumption and contribute to a "more connected, conscious, and sustainable Cuba."

The initiative sparked a wave of sarcastic and annoyed comments from internet users, who interpreted the message as a mockery of the ongoing power outages and service deficiencies.

"Why bother? There's never any power," one user joked, while another replied, "The joke of the day." Other comments captured the general sentiment: "You all should learn so you can provide good service" or "When something rings, I worry about knowing how to read it, haha."

Many users recalled that they pay the bill through Transfermóvil and still face long hours without electricity. "It's blackmail," wrote one internet user, while another added: "They're teaching us to read the meter for when they dollarize electricity."

The publication, which aimed to promote civic participation, ended up once again highlighting the profound dissatisfaction of Cubans with a collapsed electrical system that continues to ask for understanding while not providing solutions.
