A traffic accident that occurred on the Vía Blanca in Matanzas caused a container loaded with pipes intended for oil drilling to fall off at the exit of a curve deemed dangerous by regular drivers in the area.
The incident occurred near the malecón, where the container ended up crashing into the perimeter fence.
According to the information shared in the Facebook Ciudad de Matanzas en Fotos group by user Reynold Ortega, there were no reported casualties or injuries, although there were visible material damages to the infrastructure of the waterfront promenade.
Witnesses reported that the truck lost stability while taking the turn, which may have caused the load to shift. Images shared from the scene show the scattered pipes and part of the railing of the promenade damaged.
Neighbors and passersby agreed that this is not the first accident to occur on that stretch of Vía Blanca, an area where heavy vehicles travel at high speeds, even at night.
They also questioned the safety conditions under which large volume cargoes are transported within the city, lacking visible securing systems and adequate protective measures.
Although the incident did not result in any fatalities, it reignites concerns about road safety in Matanzas and the lack of regulation regarding the transportation of heavy loads in urban areas.
Hours after the accident, crews were working to clean up the area, while residents awaited the authorities to repair the damage caused to the wall in the waterfront area.
