The Cuban-American congressman Carlos A. Giménez issued a direct warning to the regime in Havana following reports about the potential fall of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

"What happened today in Iran should serve as an example to the dictatorship in #Cuba. They will be next if they do not change their modus operandi," he wrote through his official account on X.

The message from the Republican representative from Florida—a staunch critic of the Cuban dictatorship—comes against a backdrop in which he has intensified his rhetoric against the government of Havana, stating on several occasions that the dictatorship is weakened and that it is necessary to increase political and economic pressure to bring about changes on the island.

Giménez, born in Cuba and representing District 28 of Florida, has historically promoted stricter measures against the regime, including the suspension of remittances and travel, on the premise that these actions weaken the communist government and support the Cuban people in their fight for freedom.

Minutes after the first post, Gimenez shared a video about the streets of Miami, where people gathered this Saturday, following the events in Iran, to demand change for the island.

His statements come at a time of heightened international tension following the military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran, which have sparked various expectations and reactions across different countries and sectors, including some Iranian civil society movements that, according to social media posts, have celebrated the downfall of the political leadership of the Islamic Republic.

In recent months, statements like this one from the congressman contribute to a tougher tone in sectors of the United States Congress advocating to maximize pressure on authoritarian governments in Cuba and other countries allied with Tehran, as geopolitical tensions rise in the hemisphere and in the Middle East.
