The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, reported this Thursday that he held a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Serguéi Lavrov, during which both discussed matters related to strengthening bilateral relations between Havana and Moscow.

In a message shared on social media, the Cuban chancellor stated that he spoke with "the dear friend Sergey Lavrov," the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, and that during their conversation, they continued discussing the topics recently addressed during his visit to the Russian capital.

According to Rodríguez, the conversation focused on promoting the cooperation between both countries in various sectors and allowed for confirming what he described as the "excellent state" of relations between Cuba and Russia.

The head of Cuban diplomacy also expressed gratitude for Moscow's support of the government's position on the international stage.

"I expressed my gratitude for the unwavering support shown by Chancellor Lavrov for the defense of our national sovereignty and Cuba's right to choose its own destiny," Rodríguez noted.

In recent years, Havana and Moscow have strengthened their political, economic, and diplomatic ties amid an international context marked by Western sanctions against Russia and tensions between the Cuban government and the United States.
