The Cuban-American duo Los Pichy Boys released a message of hope to Cubans both inside and outside the island this Friday, urging them to trust Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State of the United States, and assuring that the freedom of Cuba is near.
"Cubans, those from here and those from there, trust in Marco Rubio. Do not despair, we are in good hands. Our day is coming, the Freedom of Cuba is near", they wrote on their X account, directly tagging the official account of the Cuban-American official.
The message arrives at a time of maximum pressure from the Trump administration on the Cuban regime and of growing expectations within the exile community following the recent statements by Rubio himself.
On April 1st, Rubio anticipated on the Hannity program on Fox News that there would be rather significant news about Cuba soon, a statement that stirred emotions in the Cuban community abroad.
Days earlier, on March 27, the Secretary of State had been emphatic: "Cuba needs two things: economic reform and political reform. you cannot fix its economy without changing its system of government."
Los Pichy Boys —identified as Alejandro González (Alex) and Maikel Rodríguez (Maikito)— have a long-standing relationship with Rubio.
In July 2021, the then-senator welcomed them at the Capitol following the historic protests of July 11, where he emphasized: "the Cubans who marched were not asking for remittances, they were asking for freedom".
On March 24, the duo participated in the large Free Cuba Rally held at Milander Park in Hialeah, where they called for sending the message Cuba Next to the U.S. government.
In that same event, the communicator Alexander Otaola also stated that "the freedom of Cuba is near," in line with the message that the Pichy Boys are now reiterating.
The call from the duo comes as Cuba faces its worst crisis since the Special Period: the GDP has fallen by 23% since 2019, with an additional contraction projected at 7.2% for 2026.
Several provinces are experiencing outages of more than 18 hours a day, and over 600,000 Cubans have left the island since 2022.
The Trump administration has imposed more than 240 new sanctions against the regime since January 2026, including the interception of seven Russian tankers carrying fuel destined for Cuba, described by the New York Times as the first effective blockade since the Missile Crisis of 1962.
Rubio has conditioned the lifting of the embargo on a complete regime change, a stance he reiterated before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on January 29, 2026: "The lifting of the sanctions and the embargo will only take place once a regime change occurs."
President Trump himself predicted on January 27, 2026, the collapse of the Cuban regime "very soon," linking it to the loss of Venezuelan support following the capture of Nicolás Maduro.
