The legal proceedings against the Cuban Alfredo Carballo González took a new step in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court of Miami-Dade, after his defense formally submitted a written plea of not guilty for the murder of Daylon Fleitas González, also Cuban, which occurred last August in Hialeah.

Carballo González faces charges of second-degree homicide with a weapon, robbery, and tampering with physical evidence.

According to a report from Telemundo 51, based on the court documents presented this week before the court, the Public Defender's Office, led by Carlos J. Martínez, has officially taken on his legal representation.

The assistant attorney Jacqueline García presented the plea of not guilty, waived the formal reading of charges, and requested that the proceedings be taken before a jury.

Additionally, the defense activated the discovery mechanism, which requires the prosecution to disclose any evidence that could benefit the accused or cast doubt on their responsibility.

The court must also determine whether Carballo meets the legal requirements of indigence to receive public defender services under Florida law.

Consolidation of the case

Judge Carlos H. Gámez ordered the transfer of the case file to Division III and to unify it with the proceedings of Ariely Álvarez Cabrera (Carballo González’s partner), who is facing charges of concealment after the fact and tampering with evidence.

This administrative measure will allow a single judge to oversee both cases, avoiding duplicate hearings and aiming for greater consistency and efficiency in the judicial process.

So far, no date has been set for the next hearing, although it is expected that the schedule will include follow-up appearances and other procedural stages following the request for a jury trial.

During a pretrial hearing, the prosecution stated that Carballo fled to Mexico after the crime and was recently extradited to South Florida, where he remains in custody.

The background of the crime

The case began with the disappearance of Daylon Fleitas González on August 3 in Hialeah.

According to the investigation by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, the victim was last seen that day when she went to meet Carballo in a truck parking lot located at Northwest 95 Avenue and 106 Street in Medley.

Fleitas attended the meeting to collect a debt of 10,000 dollars that Carballo owed him.

A surveillance video captured the moment both entered the victim's Ford F-150 truck. Minutes later, the images show Fleitas falling from the vehicle and Carballo dragging the body until he placed it into a recycling bin that he then put in the back of the truck.

Subsequently, the accused left the scene driving the victim's vehicle, while another car—allegedly driven by their partner—followed.

On August 8, authorities located the truck in an area near Southwest 227th Avenue and Southwest 260th Street, with traces of blood and multiple items deemed as evidence.

The next day, Fleitas' body was found inside a recycling container in a wooded area near Southwest 203rd Avenue. The county medical examiner confirmed that he had multiple stab wounds.

Flight, capture, and extradition

After the crime, Carballo and Álvarez left the United States and moved to Mexico with their five-month-old son. Authorities launched a search for them and requested public assistance.

Álvarez was arrested in September and extradited to South Florida. The minor was rescued unharmed and placed under the care of child protective services.

Carballo was arrested by Mexican authorities on January 27 and subsequently extradited to Miami, where homicide detectives executed his formal arrest.

Pain and demand for justice

The murder of Daylon Fleitas has been regarded as one of the most disturbing crimes recorded in 2025 in South Florida.

The victim's family has repeatedly expressed their pain and demand for justice. Marlon Fleitas, the deceased's brother, stated: "At first, I didn't think he (Carballo) was capable of such a barbarity, to be honest, but I always had the gut feeling that he was involved."

"I believe that no amount of money is enough to start life," he stated.

According to his testimony, while searching for Daylon, he maintained communication with Carballo, who even transferred him $2,500 via Zelle, claiming it was part of the outstanding debt.

Regarding Ariely Álvarez Cabrera, he stated: "She had thousands of opportunities to free herself from this, and she did not. She became an accomplice because she wanted to."

The victim's mother stated that as long as she is alive, she will be crying out for justice without tiring. "We will never have peace again, because they ripped a piece of our family away from us," she emphasized.

So far, the court has not announced the date of the next hearing, while the legal proceedings continue.
